Early Start
After nearly two weeks off work I've got out of the habit of getting up early so a 6 o' clock start was a bit of a shock to the system. I managed to find all my gym stuff without waking the rest of the house and head off to the gym for my first experience of Body Balance.
I didn't know what to expect and my good friend Google couldn't tell me if I would need a yoga mat or not. Having turned up without my mat I was relieved to discover that the studio had its own supply of mats. I managed to do a bit of gentle stretching before the class started but even so once we did start I quickly found I was doing things with my body that I'd not done for a long time.
Body balance appears to be Yoga but with a lot more stretching and balancing. About 15 minutes into the class quite a few people stopped what they were doing and grabbed their phones so that they could book onto next weeks classes because the new classes are released at 7 every morning and quickly fill up. I was less organised so ended up booking a class when I got back down to the changing room at the end of the session.
Although lots of the stretchers and balances were hard going the instructor did keep making suggestions on how you could adapt the moves if you were struggling. Of all the classes I've tried this week this one really made me sweat and I was very relieved with 10 minutes to go when the instructor said now we are going to relax for the rest of the session.
I think what I learned most from the session was that I really don't stretch enough before I go running so I hope to incorporate some of the moves I did today in my daily warm up or cooldown.
I had planned to swim after the class but the pool was really busy so I spent 10 minutes in the sauna recovering.
This afternoon my wife needed so tickets collecting from the train stations so I walked there and back to get another hours exercise under my belt.
I then finished off the day by going for a swim. Luckily the pool is very quiet by 9 o'clock so I virtually had a lane to myself for 30 minutes.
4 days completed and I've still managed to resist having a drink.
